Community Nurse, Baby Care Attendant at Kenyatta University

Kenyatta University is looking to recruit qualified and dedicated applicants for vacant positions in the following offices:

School of Applied Human Sciences
Community Resource Management and Extension Department
Kenyatta University Baby Day Care Centre
To cater for children whose ages range from six (6) months to three (3) years.
 
i. Community Nurse
Grade C/D
Qualifications:
  • Certificate in Community Health Nursing from a recognized institution
  • KCE Division IV/ KCSE Mean Grade C- (minus)and above
  • At least two (5) years relevant work experience
  • Medical Certificate of Good Health
  • Certificate of Good Conduct with copies of the finger prints attached
  • Registered by Nursing Council of Kenya

Other qualities:

  • Sensitive to children’s individual, developmental, and cultural characteristics
  • Should be warm, pleasant and presentable
  • Good team player
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate
  • Well organized and self-driven
Duties and responsibilities:
  • Giving first aid to children when required
  • Administering medication when necessary
  • Keeping of medical records like immunization records
  • Identifying children who need serious medical attention
Extra requirement:
  • Only female candidates required
ii. Baby Care Attendant
Grade III/IV
Qualifications:
  • Certificate in Early Childhood Development from a recognized institution
  • KCE Division IV/ KCSE Mean Grade D+ (plus)and above
  • At least two (2) years relevant work experience
  • Medical Certificate of Good Health
  • Certificate of Good Conduct with copies of the finger prints attached
Other qualities:
  • Should be a mature person
  • Should have an understanding of child development
  • Should have skills to implement play and instructional activity for children
  • Should be sensitive to children’s individual development and cultural characteristics
  • Should be warm and loving
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Well organized and self – driven
Duties and responsibilities:
  • Attend to personal cleanliness of every child; bathing, changing diapers/soiled clothes, toilet training and washing hands
  • Feeding the children according to the required age group standards
  • Organizing children’s rooms
  • Laying baby cots according to the institution standards
  • Playing with children and getting down on the floor to relate to them
  • Soothing or rocking children to sleep
  • Arrange activities/ games for children and provide them with chance to utilize their curiosity
  • Maintain safe surroundings
Extra requirement:
  • Only female candidates required
Terms of Service:
For those applying for teaching positions above Tutorial Fellow they will be employed on permanent and pensionable terms.
The terms of service for non teaching positions include a generous medical scheme, house allowance and commuting allowance. 
Successful candidates will be offered two (2) year renewable performance – based contract and gratuity will be paid at the end of the contract.
