ICT Officers I and II at National Biosafety Authority (NBA)
The overall mandate of the NBA is to exercise the general supervision and control over the transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) with a view to ensuring safety of human and animal health as well as the provision of an adequate level of protection of the environment.
NBA is the competent authority of the Government of the Republic of Kenya mandated to regulate all activities involving GMOs in food, feed, research, industry, trade and environmental release.
NBA seeks to recruit dynamic, innovative and experienced Kenyan citizens to fill the following position:-
Information and Communication Technology Officer I

Duties and Responsibilities
The Officer in this position will report to Principal Human Resource and Administration Officer
- Carrying out systems analysis and design and programme specifications in liaison with users.
- Developing, implementing and maintaining systems.
- Ensuring adherence to established ICT standards.
- Supervising and compiling overall systems documentation.
- Recommending and supervising development of Software specifications for ICT equipment.
- Advising on ICT related issues.
- Supervising installation, certification of new ICT equipment.
- Overseeing repairs and maintenance of ICT equipment and associated peripherals.
- Developing and maintaining ICT standards.
- Training ICT Hardware personnel and users.
- Recommending and supervising development of Hardware specifications for ICT equipment.
- Undertaking logging of problems.
- Drawing and scheduling preventive maintenance.
- Assisting in ICT feasibility studies as assigned.
- Training officers working under him/her. Security aspect, website updates.
- A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Computer Science/ Information Communication Technology, Electronics Engineering or any other ICT related disciplines with a bias in computer science from a recognized institution.
- Served in an equivalent and relevant position with a cumulative working experience of at least three (3) years in the ICT field and any relevant post graduate qualification.
- Master’s degree in any of the above areas is an added advantage.
An Officer in this position will report to Information Communication Technology Officer I.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Configuring Local Area Network and Wide Area Network.
- Developing and updating application system.
- Carrying out systems analysis, design and programme specifications in liaison with users.
- Devising and implementing measures to enhance safety, security and accountability for electronics equipments parts and components.
- Undertaking on the job training.
- Undertaking repairs and maintenance of ICT equipment and associated peripherals
- Drawing up hardware specifications for ICT equipment.
- Verifying, validating and certifying ICT equipment.
- Overseeing the process of configuration of new ICT equipment.
- Liaising with vendors to demonstrate operations of new designs and models.
- Advising on warranty issues.
- Scheduling and assigning tasks to share out work equitably.
- Identifying and acting on priority tasks.
- Updating and keeping custody of service manuals.
- Ordering for replacement parts undertaking market research.
- A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or any other ICT related disciplines with a bias in computer science from a recognized University.
