SEARCH Nurse – ART Delivery (6 Positions), Motor Cycle Riders (2 positions) at KEMRI/RCTP)
Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP), is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW).
SEARCH is a community cluster randomized trial in Uganda and Kenya of widespread early community wide antiretroviral therapy (ART) vs. standard of care, where primary endpoints will include both community health and community economic status.
- Obtain consent/assent for study enrolment.
- Assist in the physical examination of study participants.
- Assist in follow up of study participants.
- Offer HIV counseling, care and support to study participants.
- Provide pre/post test counseling and adherence counseling to participant.
- Offer contraception counseling and provide contraceptive methods at the site.
- Completing case report forms.
- Assist in follow-up of laboratory results.
- Perform accurate record keeping and check study forms for completeness and accuracy each day.
- Schedule follow-up visits.
- Respond to questions about the study posed by participants and the community.
- Maintain a good relationship with the community and other clinic staff.
- Develop an in depth understanding of the study’s goals and the logistics required to conduct the study
- Report problems encountered to study supervisor and consult appropriately.
- Attend meetings related to the study.
- Performs other duties assigned by the studymanager and designated supervisors
- Diploma in Nursing and must be registered by the relevant body
- At least one year experience with clinical research
- Minimum 1year of experience in HIV Clinical Care including anti retroviral
- Experience implementing and supervising research (public health or clinical studies)
- Must be a team player and motivator
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills:
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and Dholuo
- Maintain frequent contact using cell phone, email, and Skype
- Diplomatic with strong leadership skills.

- Able to monitor, gather and evaluate information of broad scope and complexity
- Natural ability to multitask, problem solve, and work with others to resolve challenges
- Competent with computer software applications includingMicrosoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet-based applications
- Interest in working in an innovative and demanding environment with extensive travel to rural sites in South Nyanza Province
- Daily collection of laboratory samples from study intervention clinics
- Daily delivery of laboratory test results to study clinics
- Sample networking across study clinics and laboratory testing sites
- Maintain motor cycle in good working condition and maintain up to date work ticket
- Any other study related duties assigned by the management and Laboratory coordinator
- KCSE Certificate with a minimum mean grade of ( C-)
- Current Motorcycle driving/riding license and a Certificate of good conduct
- Must be over 25years of age
- Good communication skills and a team player
- 2 years’ riding experience on rough terrains
- Preferably residents of the area well versed with the geography of the area.
- Experience in basic mechanical skills is also an added advantage
- Must be a team player and motivator
