Inspections Officers at Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA)

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is a state Authority created under an Act of Parliament No.35 of 2011, which provides for civilian oversight over the work of the police. 
IPOA is mandated to hold the police accountable to the public in the performance
of their functions.

IPOA wishes to recruit a results-oriented Kenyan citizens with drive, vision and creativity to fill the following vacancy at the Authority:

Job Summary: The Inspections Officer will be responsible to the Head of Inspections.
Specific duties and responsibilities will entail:
  • Conducting inspection of police premises and detention facilities under the Control of the service;
  • Preparing timely and accurate inspection reports;
  • Conducting of thematic, impromptu and routine Inspections of Police premises in accordance with laid down regulations;
  • Doing analysis of the Inspections conducted; and
  • Providing rapid response action during eventualities.
Job Specifications
For appointment to this grade, an Officer must have:
  • Served for a minimum period of three (3) years in the grade of Inspection or Monitoring Officer or four (4) years in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service or Private Sector;
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Law, Public Administration, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Sociology, Political Science, Human Rights, Social Sciences or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
  • Certificate in computer application skills with special emphasis on data analysis;
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
  • Candidates with field experience in inspections and monitoring will have added advantage.

All shortlisted Candidates shall be required to produce originals of their National Identity Card, Academic
and Professional Certificates and Transcripts and Testimonials. 

They will also be required to obtain clearance from the following bodies.

i. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) 
ii. Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) 
iii. Higher Education Loans Board (HELB); and
iv. Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
