Laboratory Technician at icipe
icipe seeks to recruit a Laboratory Technician for the Martin Lüscher Emerging Infectious Diseases (ML-EID) Laboratory.
This is a local (national) position that offers a one-year contract that is renewable, contingent upon individual performance and continued funding.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate operation of automated nucleic acid extractions, and various molecular procedures within the ML-EID laboratory.
- Assist in keeping sample and supply inventories.
- Assist students and staff within the ML-EID in their research efforts.
- Make sure good laboratory practices are followed by others in the laboratory.
- Experience with general molecular biology procedures, including extraction, reverse transcription and PCR.
- Experience in working with high biosafety standards, protocols and SOPs.
- Familiarity with cell culture and serological techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience in automated nucleic acid extraction on a MagNA Pure 96.
- Experience in maintaining sample and supply inventories and records.
- BSc degree in biological sciences.
- At least 1 years’ working experience in an infectious diseases biosafety laboratory.
The candidate must also possess the following attributes:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills that establishes a good working relationship with customers.
- Ability to multi-task in dealing with several different issues at a time.
- Ability to work under high pressure, meet deadlines, monitor and follow-up on pending matters under minimum supervision.
The selected candidate should be available to start as soon as possible.
