POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Accountant – Staff Accounts and Inventory
REF: ACNRS/FIN/06/14
ILRI seeks to recruit an Accountant to manage staff and consultants accounts and Inventory
sub-ledger. The Accountant is also expected to actively support the roll-out of a new ERP
system.
ILRI works to enhance the roles livestock play in pathways out of poverty in developing
countries. ILRI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research
(CGIAR) Consortium, a global research partnership of 15 centers working with many partners
for a food-secure future. ILRI has two main campuses in East Africa and other hubs in West and

Responsibilities
· Checking/Reviewing and journalizing of Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) & consultants Travel Expense Reports (TERs) and Project/workshop expenditure reports;
· Reviewing/checking the accuracy of NRS & Consultants Travel Authorizations (TAs) and project Advances requests (PARs) and staff account status before Payment;
· Reconcile all NRS staff accounts and ensure they are up to date. Ensure all amounts owed to or by staff are paid or accounted for promptly;
· Carry out monthly aging routine for NRS and Consultants personal Accounts and make relevant recommendations;
· Prepare and forward to payroll Unit the monthly NRS staff payroll deductions schedule;
· Carry out monthly allocation of NRS personal Accounts and ensure relevant adjustment journals are passed;
· Facilitate NRS and Consultants to access their personal accounts online. Follow up with the system support team on system improvements and trouble shooting. Ensure timely response to staff queries;
· Update NRS and Consultants personal Accounts listing in the system. Opening personal accounts for new staff on time and immediate closure of accounts for separated staff upon payment of final retention balance;
· Post all GRNs and MINs in General Ledger (GL) by the end of calendar month;
· Prepare correct and accurate monthly reconciliations of Inventory GL balances to the Inventory Control (IC) sub-ledger;
· Organize and coordinate all stock take exercises;
· Prepare and circulate stock take report within one week after completion of the exercise. The report must include clear recommendations to write off obsolete items and provide for slow moving items. Ensure stock take adjustment journal is prepared, approved and posted in the month of stock take;
· Actively participate in ERP roll-out and support cross team working before, during and after implementation of the new ERP System
Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting;
· Full accounting qualifications- CPA (K) or ACCA;
· Minimum of two years of relevant working experience;
· Good personal organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail;
· Good communication and interpersonal skills;
· Highly effective multi-tasking skills, with ability to coordinate, prioritize and organize
workload and meet deadlines.
Terms of appointment:
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is for a
2 years’ contract period.
Job level and salary:
This position is job level 2B with a starting salary of KES83,606 per month. In addition ILRI
currently offers medical insurance for staff and dependents, Life insurance, Pension at 12.5%
employers contribution, Annual holiday entitlement of 30 days+ public holidays within ILRI’s
