The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is a not-for-profit Pan-African institution, dedicated for the last 20 years to enabling the advancement of economic policy research and training in Africa.
The Consortium’s mandate and strategic intent is built on the basis that sustained development in Sub-Saharan Africa requires well-trained, locally based professional economists.
AERC agitates the provision of capacity building in economic policy in Francophone and Anglophone African countries through provision of support in the areas of policy research and training.
AERC is seeking to recruit a suitable individual to fill the following position:
Accountant
The position supports the programs by maintaining proper books of accounts and applying financial control measures in the various transactions.
Key responsibilities:
- Preparation of donor financial reports and ensuring they meet the set standards;
- Assisting in the preparation for annual audits and special audits as required;
- Verifying accuracy of data posted in the accounting system;
- Preparation and assisting in the analysis of programme grantees and reconciling balances;
- Processing of general ledger journals and maintaining the accrual ledger account;
- Maintaining, updating and reconciling the fixed asset register to the general ledger on a quarterly basis;
- Preparing monthly bank reconciliations;
- Management of debtor accounts
- Reviewing all voucher in support of requests for payment and releasing payments once approved;
- Ensuring safety of the cash and cheques;
- Prepare accurate and timely donor reports;
- Assisting in the preparation of Programme for Work and Budget.
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Commerce or any Business related discipline;
- CPA (K)
- At least three years relevant experience
- Experience in computerized accounting systems
- Proficiency in computer applications (MS Office) with superior skills in MS Excel.
- Experience in Grant management and donor reporting;
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good problem solving and analytical skills
