Project Officer, Laboratory Services Specialist at Health Strat
Job Purpose: The Project Officer will be responsible for managing the day-to-day project deliverables, keeping track of project budgets and work plans under the direction of the Project Coordinator, and ensuring execution of key project goals and activities.
- Project implementation and monitoring including supporting the project team to develop and implement work plans, managing the completion of project deliverables and planning and ensuring execution of key project meetings and activities
- Ensure that project resources are aligned to enable delivery of project goals including the development of procurement plans for the grant
- Assist in developing budgets and monitoring project burn rates to ensure activities are implemented within the accepted timeframe and budget
- Assist in tracking the budget lines to ensure that expenditures incurred are within budget
- Representing the program at key stakeholders’ meetings/forums
- Building and maintaining relationships and operational partnerships with implementing partners
Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in a business-related field
- Project management certification
- 3 years’ experience, 1 year experience within the Kenya health system
- Experience on a PEPFAR/CDC grant (added advantage)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Project management skills
- Organization and analytical skills
- Problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Computer literacy

Job Title: Laboratory Services Specialist
Job Purpose: The Laboratory Services Specialist will work to ensure that high quality laboratory services are reliably accessible throughout the Kenya Prisons Service healthcare system.
- Develops and implements a capacity-building and systems-strengthening plan for laboratory services in close collaboration with key partners
- Institutionalizes continuous quality improvement systems for laboratory services
- Examines laboratory operations and systems and leads the development of strategies to address findings
- Ensures implementation of recommended quality control and quality assurance systems
- Supports healthcare facilities to effectively manage their commodities, with optimal utilization of the national supply chain mechanism
- Ensures appropriate laboratory investigations are available through onsite capacity or an effective networking system, including (but not limited to) CD4, viral load testing, and GeneXpert
- Leads stepwise accreditation for laboratories appropriate to their service level
- Leads the implementation of training and continuous professional development systems for laboratory staff
- Supports laboratory staff through onsite mentorship, troubleshooting equipment, and troubleshooting interpretation of results
- Evaluates outcomes of capacity-building activities and shares recommendations
- Represents the organization with the KMLTTB and in a laboratory technical capacity at various meetings
- Writes laboratory services activity reports
- Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Science
- Or Higher National Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science and 5 years’ experience in a busy clinical laboratory
- Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board
- 3 years’ experience of bench work in a laboratory providing HIV-related monitoring and investigations, 1 years’ experience at supervisory level
- Experience developing laboratory networking systems (added advantage)
- Experience with laboratory accreditation processes (added advantage)
- Demonstrable expertize in HIV- and TB-related investigations
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Innovative with a high degree of initiative
- Organizational skills
