ACTED Kenya is looking for an experienced self-driven and a self-oriented professional to fill the following post: Project Assistant to be based in Mandera County.

Reporting to the Program Manager/DCA Mandera, the Project Assistant will assist the program manager in the planning, management and implementation of the overall project activities and will bear the following;

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Project Implementation:.

  • Liaise with communities, beneficiaries for better project impact.
  • Carry out beneficiary identification and selection.
  • Assist with weekly and monthly planning & reporting
  • Oversee daily implementations of field activities.
  • Organize and conduct  target beneficiary trainings in Early warning, Advocacy & Governance and Conflict mitigation 
  • Assist the Programme manager in capacity building of the CDMC’s-Community Disaster Management Committees.
  • Assist the Programme Manager in reviewing of the community disaster management plans at community level in liaison with NDMA
  • Assist the Programme Manager in supporting Mandera NDMA in strengthening the county early warning system
Management:
  • Work with ACTED management and support staff to comply with rules and procedures.
Reporting:
  • Assist with weekly and monthly reporting to the Deputy Area Coordinator.
  • Keep the Deputy Area Coordinator regularly updated on all issues related to the project activities.
Requested Profile
  • Bachelors of science, Project Management, Community Development or a related field with at least 2 years’ experience implementing community projects for an INGO.
  • Relevant education and experience in Disaster Risk Reduction, Conflict mitigation and management, food security and overall development studies
  • Excellent skills in project cycle & drought management;
  • Experience in early warning and/or situation analysis;
  • Experience in facilitation and training with a variety of stakeholders including local authorities, NGOs and communities
  • The ability to write clear, meticulous and analytically-sound reports and memos in English;
  • Good communication skills and diplomacy, including respectfulness towards international and national staff, conflict-affected and rural communities.
  • Respect for authority and the chain of command
  • Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as well as the ability to plan, take initiative and organize work independently.
  • Thoroughness in all aspects of work, especially to ensure complete and useful data collection and reports;
  • Competency in all computer-related tasks including Word, Excel (in particular filters, links and other logical functions) and E-mail is required. Skills and experience using word and Excel is essential.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to the field for data collection, cross-checking the data and provide training ;
  • Fluency in both English and Somali is required. Skills in Kiswahili and Borana language  is desirable;
