Laboratory Technical Advisor at RCTP/KEMRI
Program Description: Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW).
RCTP leads the Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES) program, a comprehensive HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment program working in 140 clinics in Kisumu, Migori and Homabay Counties, Kenya.
We have a vacancy for the Technical Advisor in charge of Laboratory Services in the FACES program
Position: Technical Advisor – Laboratory

Reports to: Deputy Director- Clinical
Duration: One Year Renewable
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee laboratory service in the FACES program
- Develop laboratory standard operating procedures and annual work plans for the program.
- Take lead role in laboratory budget development.
- Provide guidance on budget implementation and align it with the annual work plan
- Represent FACES program in all high level laboratory services related meetings
- Convene periodic meetings of FACES laboratory District Program officers-
- Supervise and report on all laboratory services in the FACES Program to the FACES, directors, donor and MOH.
- Provide quarterly, semi-annual and annual progress reports on laboratory services to the FACES directors, county directors of Health and donors.
- Ensure that laboratory teams are providing quality services to all clients seeking laboratory services in line with recommended guidelines
- Ensure appropriate preventive maintenance of essential laboratory equipment and proper inventory management for laboratory commodities in the program.
- Ensure the implementation of necessary biosafety practices within the program
- Mentorship, and Supervision of lab staff in the program
Requirements
- Minimum of a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or a similar qualification from a recognized medical training institution and be registered with the board.
- Additional training in QA/QC and GCLP will be an added advantage
- At least 4 year’s experience preferably within a busy HIV care program.
- Basic computer use and common software packages i.e. word, excel, access and internet
- The position requires a self-motivated flexible individual who can work independently to improve lab operations.
- The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, pro-active, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
