International Intern, Livelihood at International Organization for Migration (IOM)
Organizational Context and Scope
Since 2011, International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been implementing Livelihood Programme in Somaliland to improve livelihoods and basic social services of the migrants and mobile population.
The programs has contributed significantly in increasing household food security level through short-term income generating activities such as cash for work and vocational skill training projects
The Programme will be implementing Livelihood interventions targeting:
- IDPs who are returning to villages of origin and reintegrating into host communities,
- Drought affected pastoral and agro-pastoral communities,
- Returning refugees from neighbouring countries and transit area communities,
- Migrants returning from abroad
- Capacity building of the government on service delivery and DRR.
Under the direct supervision of Project Manager for Livelihood and Return & Reintegration, in close co-ordination and consultation with Livelihood colleagues as well as other Somalia units in Nairobi the incumbent will develop projects and mobilize resources.
All these activities will serve to support the effective field implementation of the Project. In particular, he/she will perform the following duties.
- Assist in drafting concept notes and proposals for potential donors’ and funding opportunities.
- Assist in providing technical assistance to the Livelihood Officer in formulating project development strategy by analysing IOM’s comparative advantage in Livelihood in terms of experience, expertize, capacity and funding opportunities.
- Assist in identifying potential and realistic funding opportunities by collecting donor information, liaising with potential donors, and attending coordination meetings.
- Edit reports and documents in English as requested
- Assist in the communications; to create materials for publicity for Livelihood so as to appeal to donors for resource mobilization
- Attend cluster meetings, workshops that are relevant to the Unit and provide feedback to the Programme Manager
- Conduct field travel to monitor progress and completion of the projects.
- Perform any other related task as may be assigned by the Project Manager.

- Master’s Degree in Business Administration, social sciences or related fields ;
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of humanitarian work;
- Experience working in project; working through local NGO or International Organization.
- Solid computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office package (Word, Excel, Power Point), internet and Email;
- Knowledge of Somalia and prior work in the Horn of Africa region will be considered as an advantage.
- Must hold a valid passport permitting travel to countries within the East African and Horn Region.
