Legal Intern, Social Worker at Women’s Rights Awareness Programme (WRAP)
The Women’s Rights Awareness Programme (WRAP), a non – governmental Organization based in Nairobi and whose core objective is to provide shelter for abused Women and Children is seeking to recruit dynamic, self driven and result oriented persons to fill in the following vacant positions;
Social Worker
Responsibilities: include and are not limited to:
- Carrying out need assessment for WRAP clients i.e. emotional and psychological needs
- Attending to walk-in clients, accompany clients to hospitals, children’s department, courts, outings etc
- Conducting follow ups, home visits, resettlement and reintegration for WRAP Clients
- Participating in community outreach programmes to sensitize the community on the rights and welfare of women and children
- Participate in seminars, workshops, conferences on issues related to the rights of children and women
- Writing monthly reports about the activities carried out
Education:
- Diploma in Social work or Community Development from a reputable institution.
- Knowledge in basic counseling an added advantage
- At least 2 years experience in community work.
- Professional experience working with National/International organization/ NGO and experience in child rights and women empowerment.
- Knowledge in community psychosocial based support.
- Fluency in Kiswahili and English (written and spoken)
- High level of integrity, commitment and professional responsibility.
- Excellent communication, organization and presentation skills.
- Able to work in a team with minimal supervision
- Assisting Legal Counsel with drafting of all legal correspondences and documents for clients on behalf of WRAP.
- Filing documents that are related to legal matters on behalf of WRAP Clients
- Be involved in court attendance and attending to clients who come to WRAP in search of legal aid and advice.
- Undertaking arbitration/reconciliation and mediations when need arises
- When need arises undertake fact finding missions to verify facts on matters where WRAP intends to intervene.
- Participate and attend workshops/ seminars and other networking meetings on behalf of wrap when called upon to do so.
- Degree in Law or should be in the final year of completion in the University.
- Computer literate
- Good communication and report writing skills
- Organized and good analytical skills
- Have the ability to multi task.
