Field Officers at Cereal Growers Association
The Position’s Objective
The broad objective of this position is to mobilize smallholder farmers into business oriented groups that will be used as vehicles to aggregate and jointly market selected traditional staple crops.
In consultation with the Project Officer, the field officer will also take a lead role in the coordination of various capacity building activities including trainings and set up of aggregation centres among other field activities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Spearhead smallholder farmer mobilization into FBOs and coordinate their participation in project activities.
- Facilitate the set up of village aggregation centres and supervise their activities in partnership with farmer organizations.
- Coordinate the training of FBO members, agro-dealers and aggregation center committees on PHH and business skills.
- Facilitate the efficient aggregation and joint marketing of the target crops.
- Sensitize and link FBOS to available agricultural credit and finance.
- Facilitate the linkage of FBOs to Agro dealers and SMEs as local produce buyers.
- Organize the holding of pre-harvest FBO / buyer interactive meetings.
- In consultation with the Project Officer, maintain a simple and practical grain production and marketing database within the project area.
- Preparing weekly, and other periodic reports as directed by the Project Officer on field activities.
- Any other duties as directed by the Project Officer / Chief Executive Officer.
At the minimum be a holder of a Degree in any Agricultural Discipline or Rural Development
Other Specialized training:
Postgraduate training and / or experience in: Marketing, Business Management or Strategic Planning is an added advantage.
Relevant Job experience:
At least three (3) years’ field experience in a related field (agricultural extension / marketing / community development work), motor riding skills and thorough geographical knowledge of the assigned area of operation.
