Declaration Clerk – Mombasa
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:
- Secondary education with mean grade of at least C+.
- Must have a certificate in Clearing & Forwarding.
- Must have at least 2 years progressive experience in Customs Declaration of inbound goods and general port operations in a busy logistics company.
- Must possess training in Orbus, Simba System and Eastern African Customs & Freight Forwarders Practising Certificate Course (EACFFPC), or any other relevant training.
- Excellent Computer skills.
- Possess initiative, be able to plan and prioritize roles.
- Team player and have attention to detail.
- Should have very high level of ethics and integrity
- Must have good communication skills in both spoken and written
Responsibilities:
- Receive declaration/documentation instructions from clients.
- Professionally carry out customs declaration while observing utmost accuracy to avoid customs rejections and punitive measures and co-ordinate processing of customs clearance documentation with filed clerks.
- Eliminate delays and customs offences.
- Constantly liaise with the Operations Manager and other staff to obtain clear instructions from clients and customs for the applicable H.S. Codes.
- Continuously monitor operations and guard against fraudulent use of KN resources and profile.
- Attain a seamless flow of ALL Seafreight documentation.
- To undertake specific Declarations in a Fast and timely input of shipping data for the generation of customs entry declaration (C17B) for all shipments under our KN contract.
- Maintain an updated and effective contact with customs on all new regulations as well as reporting to the management on any changes in business procedures.
- To eliminate delays and avoid customs offences by declaring timely and correct tariffs
- To ensure proper consultation between client, KN team and customs Authorities so as to achieve correct and suitable H.S. Codes.
