Accounts Assistant, Social Worker at Hope for Victoria Children (HOVIC)

Title: Social Worker  

Reports To: Project officer
 
Location: Kisumu
Hope for Victoria Children (HOVIC) a non – governmental  organization  based  in Kisumu that works  with Children living  on and  off the  streets  is  seeking to recruit a social worker to perform the functions outlined below.

Main Purpose and Scope
The  social worker  is  responsible  for improving  technical support and  guidance  to the  communities  to ensure  sustainable  OVC  service  delivery  through referrals.

 

S/He  will promote  and  ensure  that he  activities  of the  groups  are linked  to other  locally available  services  within the  government  and  other  civil society organizations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote linkages between Government Ministries/department like Health and children department, and other stakeholders and civil society organizations.
  • Document all services provided to OVC and caregivers including lessons learnt best practices and individual success stories.
  • Work through local network of  care givers  and  community volunteers  to monitor OVC
  • Maintain regular communication and share information on OVC activities with key stakeholders.
  • Plan and oversee with the support of HOVIC, capacity building of care- givers and community health workers on OVC care and support.

Any other duty allocated by the management from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree or Diploma level education in social work and or community development
  • At least three/ two years’ experience in community development work preferably in the field of community health working with orphans and vulnerable children
  • Knowledge and experience with NGO operations and community- based programming
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially with community- based groups
  • Knowledge and Use of computer (MS office)

The  incumbent  must have strong  analytical skills; have  excellent  interpersonal, communication , strong  results  orientation, organizational creative  and  multitasking  ability.

Proficient in project cycle  management , possess  excellent  oral/ written communication, aptitude  for  report written and  willing  to work under pressure  and  within  tight  deadlines.

Title: Accounts Assistant 
Reports To: Finance Manager
Location: Kisumu
Hope for Victoria Children (HOVIC) is seeking to recruit an Accounts Assistant to perform the functions outlined below.

Main Purpose and Scope

Provide supportive function to the finance manager

Main Duties:

  • Preparation of cheque and cash payment vouchers, taking them for authority to pay and   issuing out cheques.
  • Handling all project daily cash transactions and keeping petty cash float.
  • Maintenance of capital (asset) items inventory
  • Post transactions into ledgers
  • Processing of payroll for the staff.
  • Help in the preparation of financial reports
  • Handle payments of statutory and other payroll deductions
  • Undertake banking duties and collecting funds for the organization.
  • Support in the handling insurance matters. 
  • Data entry for bank reconciliation statements in the accounting software.
  • Any other duty allocated by the management from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(The knowledge, skills and abilities may be required through a combination of formal schooling, self-education and prior experience or on-the-job-training).

Level of Education: Bachelor’s degree in any of the following areas: Accounting, Finance, Business, or any related field with a minimum of CPA part II

Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required

  • Working knowledge of computerized accounting and other computer application packages
  • High level of integrity to be able to handle assets, cash and cash related transactions.
  • Good interpersonal skills to be able to relate to people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Attention to detail to be able to scrutinize payment supporting documents before effecting payment.
  • Effective communication both oral and written
  • Good organizing skills
Relevant Job Experience
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in a busy accounts office (preferably an NGO).

Terms & Conditions

One year contract – renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.
