OUP East Africa Ltd (OUPEA) furthers the university’s mission in research, scholarship and education by publishing quality educational materials for Kenya.
OUPEA is seeking to recruit a high calibre, results-oriented, experienced and highly skilled professional for the positions of Financial Accountant.
- Month-end and year-end financial activity and preparation of statutory accounts.
- Managing and developing a small team of accounting staff.
- Preparation and maintenance of all financial transactions within SAP in line with group accounting policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles – GAAP
- Provide leadership in month end and year ends, working with Management Accountant and the Finance & Operations Director, ensuring full reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
- Completion and submission of monthly financial reporting pack, reviewing balance sheets, cash flow statements and P&L to ensure accuracy and integrity of all data.
- Preparation and submission of all monthly, quarterly and annual statutory returns: PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, VAT, Corporate Tax, Withholding Tax on Royalties.
- Work closely with Credit & Collection Manager to ensure accuracy and integrity of the Accounts Receivable ledger
- Support budget preparation and forecasting process with Management Accountant.
- Responsible for maintenance and improvement of procedures that ensure the integrity of OUP financial information
- Receives and reviews for accuracy, reasonableness, consistency and policy compliance the expense reports from staff.
- Ensure Royalty Accounting and administration is in accordance with Group polices
- Support the business on project work as required
Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent.
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Finance is preferred.
Professional Certification
- A member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in budgeting, forecasting, MIS and reporting or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in preparation of budgets, management reports and business plans
- Experience in Accounting for Assets, General Ledger Maintenance and reconciliations
- Ability to manage, coach and train staff
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines verbal & written communication skills.
- Initiative and ability to exercise judgment
- Demonstrated experience in the coordination of formulation process.
- Knowledge of budgeting processes and reporting formats.
- Knowledge of International Financial Accounting Standards (IFRS) while applicable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability and commitment to perform effectively and work with others to achieve agreed Organizational outcomes
- Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times while in employment with the Company.
