Electronics Engineering Supervisor

The Position
This position exists to Plan, organize and co-ordinate in-house and outsourced repairs and preventive maintenance (PM) of all electronics machines and equipment in ILRI. To ensure efficient, safe and proper use of the electronics equipment for research work to be conducted.
Key responsibilities
- Plan all the activities of the Electronics Section including annual preventive maintenance (PM) schedules.
- Co-ordinate all repairs and implementation of the annual preventive maintenance (PM) schedule on a daily basis to ensure efficiency is attained.
- Install and commission new machines in the labs.
- Motivate the electronics staff and offer leadership to the team.
- Control and manage electronics sections budget; purchase of tools, safety gears and training to ensure that the technicians are equipped for work.
- Supervise and assess electronics contractual services provided by external service providers.
- Advice management on procurement of spare parts and new machines.
- Performance management of sections staff
- Provide work progress status to clients and departments helpdesk
- Assess staff skills gaps and recommend them for training which is financed by management.
- Train junior staff and students on attachment.
Requirements:-
BSc. Electrical / Electronic Engineering.
5 years’ experience with two years Hands on Experience in a busy research / laboratory equipment maintenance related operation, plant, factory and / or workshop.
Ability to supervise multiple and / or complex maintenance issues, projects, performance management, people management, effective communication, change management.
Ability to work under high pressure, meet deadlines, monitor and follow-up on pending matters under minimum supervision;
Ability to communicate fluently in writing and verbally in English.
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus. The position is on a 2 year contract with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and continued funding.
Job level and salary
This position is job Grade 2D with a starting gross salary of KES 132,917 per month. This is exclusive of other benefits provided by ILRI.
