The National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) is an Constitutional Commission established pursuant to Article 59 (4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and established by the National Gender and Equality Commission Act, 2011.
The Key functions of the Commission include promoting gender and equality and freedom from discrimination principles in accordance with Article 27 of the Constitution and promoting integration of the principles of equality and freedom from discrimination in National and County policies, laws and administrative regulations.
In order to strengthen its capacity, the Commission is seeking to recruit suitable, qualified and highly committed individuals to fill the following positions.

Personal Assistant to Commissioners:
REF: NGEC/6/2013-2 Posts
Location: Headquarters
Duration: Five (5) Year Contract Renewable

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- To provide support to the office of the Commissioner administratively and programmatically;
- To manage the Commissioner Diary;
- To coordinate, facilitate and attend meetings for the Commissioner;
- To assist in organizing Commission’s statutory meetings and any other meetings as required;
- To undertake research on issues to the mandate of the Commission for the Commissioner;
- To draft opinions for the Commissioner on topical issues as they may arise;
- To prepare briefs and presentations for the Commissioner;
- To represent the Commissioner in meetings as may be assigned; and
- To undertake any other duties which may be assigned to you, from time to time by the Commissioner.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Be a citizen of Kenya;
- Holds a degree from a recognized University in Kenya in Social Science;
- Have at least 5-7year a relevant experience in areas of Gender, Management and Administration;
- Working with the marginalized groups, persons with disabilities and Children will be an added advantage;
- Very good writing, communication and presentation skills;
- Good interpersonal and people management skills;
- Good organizational and analytical skills;
- Honest , transparent and demonstrate high level of integrity;
- Ability to work under pressure or to meet deadlines
Legal Officers:

Location: Regions
Duration: Five years contract renewable
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Advising and representing the Commission on legal matters;
- Ensuring compliance with all legal requirements of the Commission;
- Formulating, reviewing and following-up of Commissions’ Policies;
- Contracts, Agreements, MOUs etc;
- Processing day to day complaints and undertake investigations;
- Maintaining complaints and investigations files and records;
- Conducting field visits and planning investigation missions;
- Designing and facilitating mechanisms for formal hearings and inquiries by the Commission;
- Ensuring representation of the Commission in court.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Must be a citizen of Kenya;
- Holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) and hold a diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law;
- Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
- Must be a member of the Law Society of Kenya;
- At least five (3) years’ experience in legal work;
- Must exhibit good understanding of human rights and equality and non-discrimination principles;
- Must demonstrate excellent understanding of the Commission’s mandate that include working with special interest groups including minorities and marginalized persons, women, persons with disabilities and children;
- Must demonstrate good understanding of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 ;
- Must possess good report writing and presentation skills;
- Must have good understanding of organizational and analytical skills;
- Must be computer literate;
- A Masters degree will be an added advantage.
Executive Administrative Assistants/Secretaries

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- To manage secreta rial services in the assigned office;
- To prepare and type reports and minutes of meetings;
- To arrange and schedule meetings and appointments
- To handle travel arrangements;
- To maintain records and statistics of enquiries to facilitate decision-making and follow up;
- To ensure that clients are given satisfactory service;
- To receive incoming mail, compose and type routine correspondence;
- To data process documents;
- To ensure that minutes of Board, Committee and Staff meetings are placed in the minutes books;
- To ensure that the assigned office has sufficient facilities and equipment
- To type from draft or manuscripts;
- To establish a suitable filing system of all documents at the assigned office;
- To assist in the organization of workshops, conferences and seminars;
- To ensure security of office records, equipment and documents, including classified materials and;
- To carry out any other duties that may be assigned to you from time to time by the Commission.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Be a citizen of Kenya;
- Holds a Diploma in Secretarial Studies from Kenya National Examinations Council or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution or;
- Typewriting III (minimum 50 w.p.m)/computerized document processing I, Business English III/Communication II, Commerce II, Secretarial Duties II, Office Management III/Office Administration and Management III;
- Relevant experience in areas of Disability, Elderly, working with marginalized and persons with disabilities will be an added advantage;
- 5 years experience in related field;
- Proficiency in Ms Office and Computer Skills;
- Strong Oral and Written Communication skills;
- Well organized and skilled in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
- Honest, Transparent and demostrate high level on integrity;
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet dealines.

- To manage the front office and handle telephone calls and enquires;
- To handle incoming and outgoing mails, draft and type routine correspondence;

- To establish and maintain an effective filing system for storage and retrieval of information;
- Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of office for hygiene and comfort

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- To carry out messengerial duties;
- To prepare tea/refreshments for staff and meetings;
- To ensure cleanliness and orderliness in all offices;
- To assist in ensuring security is enhanced within the office;
- To ensure all mails are recorded and delivered to the appropriate offices and;
- To carry out any other duties that may be assigned to you from time to time by the Commission.
Qualifications and Experience
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) minimum mean Grate C-;
- Certificate in Catering or hospitality from a recognized institution;
- Two (2) years working experience in similar position;
- Demonstrate willingness to work long hours and under pressure with minimum supervision;
- Good customer care, organizational skills and positive attitude;
- Excellent computer skills, interpersonal relations and communication skills.
