Map Kibera Trust is looking for a Program Officer to assist with multi project coordination and monitoring, evaluation and reporting strategies targeting residents of informal settlements in Kibera, Mathare And Mukuru in Nairobi. The position will involve participation in capacity building of community units/staff, design and implementation of participatory mapping, video and voice based citizen reporting tools, quality monitoring and reporting and participation in project planning and implementation.
Map Kibera is registered as a Trust and uses participatory digital mapping technology, SMS, voice and video tools to promote citizen journalism in marginalized communities such as informal settlements in Nairobi as part of a wider attempt to promote their mainstreaming into public processes and enhancing transparent governance during service delivery. Map Kibera Trust seeks to engage Kibera, Mathare and Mukuru slum residents in participatory mapping projects and the use of citizen reporting voice and video tools to enhance citizen preparedness and monitor important public processes such as the forthcoming general elections in Kenya among others. In order to build a more efficient team, Map Kibera Trust is seeking to hire a suitable candidate for the above mentioned position.
Position Objective
1. To promote Map Kibera Trust’s efficiency in coordinating its Field programmes and managing staff in its current programme locations.
Specific tasks
Systems and procedures
- Work alongside the Admin intern and Executive Director to ensure all administrative and financial procedures are followed.
- Take lead in facilitating timely reporting and monitoring of field activities.
- Carry out objectives and indicator tracking to ensure meeting or targets set are met
within the set timelines.
M&E, Reporting and Communication
- Work with the ED to develop an M&E framework to be used in all project activities.
- Gather all activity reports from Project Officers and compile them for regular
submission to the ED.
- Submit captioned activity pictures and stories of impact for submission to the Map
Kibera Trust’s blogs.
- Ensure adherence to M&E reporting templates
Planning
- Participate in planning, implementation and coordination meetings with all Project Officers.
- Participate in both Program and Administrative planning and review meetings with the ED.

10. Conduct regular field visits to program locations to oversee and assess the delivery of project’s activities and consistency to timelines as well as address any emerging staff/volunteer concerns.
11. Supervise all project officers and volunteers.
Requirements
- Degree/ Diploma/College in community development, social work, education or other relevant discipline.
- At least 2 years experience in program implementation, preferably with a development organization or humanitarian aid organization working in informal settlements.
- Understanding of qualitative, quantitative and participatory monitoring and evaluation methodologies and principles of governance projects
- Be a Kenyan with demonstrated ability of teamwork, local networking skills, organization, and communication and planning.
- Knowledge of and passion for technology as a tool of bringing change in marginalized communities.
- Be able to demonstrate good Coordination and Communication skills through experiences over the last 6 months and where possible to show evidence of formal/informal training.
- Familiarity with community structures in informal settlements of Nairobi.
- Familiarity with concepts of governance, transparency and democracy. Should display strong leadership and coordination abilities.
