The Company:

Spatial Collective Ltd is a young social enterprise that develops innovative tools to support collective action. Spatial Collective provides comprehensive solutions for producing, managing and visualizing geographic and other information.

Purpose:

Spatial Collective Ltd is currently running projects that support organizations in collecting, managing and visualizing community-level geographic information. The team is offering a short-term (3-6 months) internship to support the field team in GPS and mobile phone-based data collection, data entry and GIS-based visualizations. We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and committed individual with a passion for learning in challenging environments.

The prospective candidate must be familiar with common data management tools (ex: excel, access) and geographic data formats, including shapefiles, KML and KMZ and with interoperability of geographic software and analysis tools (namely ArcGIS or QGIS). Applicants must be currently enrolled (3rd or 4th year) or graduated from a degree program with a focus in Geographic information systems or related field; exceptional diploma students in the same field will also be considered.

This position comes with a monthly stipend to cover transport and other associated costs. Only qualified candidates need apply.

Requirements:

●      Currently enrolled (3rd or 4th year) or recently graduated from a degree program from a reputable university or intitute of higher learning with a focus on GIS or related field. Diploma graduates from same field with exceptional skill and passion for the field of GIS will also be considered.

●      Experience with the use of GPS devices for data collection

●      Experience with the use of common GIS data formats and data manipulation (including creating data from GPS devices)

●      Strong demonstrated computer skills and familiarity with relational databases

●      Strong demonstrated written and oral communication skills

●      Familiarity with open source software and open data standards is an advantage

●      Experience with web-based mapping technologies is an advantage

●      Interest and/or experience in community development is an advantage
